Looking 'up' at the base of the brain, you will find the circle of Willis, a circular network in which the internal carotid artery system meets up and mingle lovingly with the arteries which supply vital brain structures. Interestingly, variations within the circle of Willis which occur during it's fetal development are common. And these variations may significantly influence the growth and development of the brain, in addition to being a risk factor in developing certain diseases.
